Mikhail Baryshnikov the photographer??

I just read a story..actually more of a review of Baryshnikov's photo exhibition in New York.  Alastair Macaulay of the New York Times seemed very impressed with his work.  You can read the full article here.

My immediate reaction to these photographs was to admire them as art; as design, shape, color, they’re remarkable. My initial reaction to them as a dancegoer, however, was to think that the blurring was less appropriate to Mr. Cunningham’s work than it would be to that of many other choreographers. Still, the longer I looked, the more I saw. And most of these pictures came to deepen my love of a dance repertory that already engrosses me.

I love Baryshnikov..but I have to wonder if his photography would have been so well received if he hadn't been Baryshnikov, if you know what I mean.

His photography is quite phenomenal but I suspect you're correct. Without his name attached to it, it probably never would have been considered.

I think wondering that is pointless, he is Baryshnikov and the gallery owner knows that.  After all we do live in a star driven society and Baryshnikov is still the biggest living name in the ballet world.
